Fox has unveiled a new trailer for its country music drama series, Monarch, with Susan Sarandon (Search Party, Thelma & Louise) and Tracie Adkins (I can only imagine) as king and queen of a family musical dynasty. Check out the trailer below.
Sarandon and Adkins portray Nashville royalty as Dottie and Albie Roman as they lead the first family of country music. Among their loyal subjects are their children Nicolette “Nicky ‘” Roman, played by Anna Friel. (Growing daisies, Marcella); Joshua Sasse (His correspondent, Galavant) like Luc Roman; and, the youngest daughter, Gigi-Taylor Roman, played by singer-songwriter Beth Ditto (False Sugar).
On a cover of “The Thunder Rolls” by Garth Brooks, the trailer introduces viewers to the melodrama of the Roman family. The eldest Roman daughter, Nicky, seeks to inherit the crown from her beloved mother who is planning to retire. Feeling ready to continue the musical reign of the Romans, Nicky will be faced with a sea of skeptics. Meanwhile, son Luke, CEO of the family business, is struggling to lead the business to a better future. But it’s clear that the Roman family is a matriarchy, and the Queen isn’t quite ready to give up the reins. Finally, Gigi seeks to forge her own musical path, disrupting the hierarchy and changing the face and sound of Nashville. And if this internal conflict is not enough, a dark family secret threatens to demolish the very institution that took decades to build.
The series was created and written by Melissa London Hilfers (Blasphemy, ragged edge) with Jon Feldman (Love life, real call) joined as showrunner. Both will be executive producers with Hend Baghdady (storage with Marie Kondo, Ax Cop), Gail Berman (Elvis, The Addams Family 2), Jason Ensler (Grilled, Martha Inc .: The Martha Stewart Story) and Jason Owen (Dawson’s Creek, Ricki Lake). Ensler directed the first of two episodes.
Monarch is scheduled to begin its two-night event on January 30 after the NFC NFL Championship game.
