Fashion is like a revolving door, trends are constantly coming in and going out of style. However, certain pieces such as fringe, diamonds, denim and timeless cowboy hats remain a staple of the fast fashion industry.
It was when Daniel Musto and Lani Lupton stepped into the beaming desert sun dressed to perfection in matching Western-inspired ensembles – when they realized the secret to success lay in the seams of their designs that make turn heads.
“Daniel and I go to Stagecoach every year, and we coordinate outfits together,” Lupton shared in an exclusive. musical chaos interview about their experience at the iconic music festival. “Then in 2019, we decided to design a full rhinestone fringed denim outfit. We’ve never been stopped more in both of our lives by everyone. So, we both looked at each other, and we we thought, ‘should we do them?’
Following the honky-tonk affair in Indio, California, fashion forecasters quickly noticed the high demand for stage wear, leaving them with a brilliant business idea to bring the star-ready clothes to the streets.
“We were thinking about the weekend, and we were like, ‘So you’re going to a Katy Perry concert and everyone’s wearing cupcakes. You’re going to a Lady Gaga concert, and everyone’s wearing a blonde wig with big shoulders, and you go to a Carrie Underwood concert, and everyone is wearing a wife beater and denim shorts,” veteran fashion stylist Daniel Musto explained.
After bouncing the concept off each other, Musto and Lupton brought their vision to life. Together they launched DanielXDiamond, an eye-catching line that “believes that stage wear shouldn’t be limited to stages and rhinestones shouldn’t be limited to musicians.”
The dynamic duo are now the fierce force behind Nashville’s hottest fashion label, known for their immaculate tailored designs. With durability as their main priority, the two began sourcing vintage Levi trucker jackets and relentlessly transforming them into modernized staples.
“We’re super into the glamor of the past that still feels appropriate now,” Musto revealed to musical chaos reporter Tiffany Goldstein full of excitement. “No one walks past us and sees us wearing vintage and thinks it’s a thing of the past…they think it’s a quality remake of something that’s been modernized. Either we incorporate it a bit or we let’s embellish it to make it more special,” he adds.
While carefully incorporating industrial grade materials into each flagship piece, their sales began to skyrocket and the unstoppable creative team sold over 150 custom jackets in one summer. As the two men kept up the positive momentum, Musto had the sudden urge to dress Gwen Stefani.
“I started dressing Paula Abdul for american idol when I was 20. I have worked with many actors, actresses, musicians, TV personalities over the years. So we had access to people, and I think that really clicked one day. I had this “aha” moment, and I called Lani, and I was like, “I think Gwen needs a jacket.” She’s with Blake now, and she’s country, she’s pop… she’s kind of us! the genius behind the striking creations mentioned.
Luckily, the Grammys were just around the corner, and Musto immediately called Stefani’s makeup artist to showcase the glam design. Once Musto painted the picture, the artist was instantly onboarded and placed on a tight schedule. “He saw it and saw the quality and was like, ‘If you could do it in 48 hours, I’ll take it to the Grammy’s when I do her makeup,'” Daniel shared of the conversation that took place. changed his career.
Once the cutting-edge designer hung up the phone, he swung into action with Lupton to create a jaw-dropping outfit for the genre-bending artist who embodies his dazzling designs. “It was crazy because we were so new, and we didn’t know how to do things quickly,” revealed the talented seamstress working under pressure. “It definitely taught us to do things in a weekend, and we got there. She’s the perfect face for us because she’s such a mix of all of that, and some people don’t realize there’s such a California country cowboy, and she has roots in that world too.
When the “Luxurious” singer posted the fringed denim jacket on Instagram with her husband’s name sprawled across the back, several celebs came knocking at DanielXDiamond’s door. Carrie Underwood, Joelle Fletcher, Brittany Aldean, Mickey Guyton, Diplo, Katelyn Brown, Carly Pearce and Miranda Lambert are just a few notable names that have been seen sporting the Nashville collection. In fact, country music legend Shania Twain rocked her dazzling black and gold cowgirl hat in the official music video for “Legends Never Die.”
Since the blinding piece’s big debut, several women in country music have been dying to get their hands on DanielXDiamond’s original “Shania Hat.” The multi-platinum artist passed the eye-catching hat on to Kelsea Ballerini to wear on the Remember This tour with the Jonas Brothers.
“I promised Shania and her stylist that we wouldn’t loan him out for any more music videos because I felt like he had his signature music video moment,” Musto revealed. “But, they agreed that if there was a show or a photo shoot, he could be loaned out. So when we did the hat fitting with Kelsea – I had this one with me just to see what size she was. In fact, it fit perfectly at this size.
Therefore, he placed the fully rhinestone accessory on her head like a crown and gave her the green light to make waves with the legendary hat on tour. Following the success of his stage hat, he decided to enhance the look and play with colors. “We are releasing new variations of it that take on a new name, but we have to wait for someone else to make it famous first. It’s multicolored, but it’s a bit lighter.
