Country Music’s Most Influential Women on International Women’s Day | Buckeye Country 94.3 WMRN-FM

We all need strong leaders, mentors. Others who preceded us, who paved the way for us to follow. Here are examples of women breaking stereotypes and leading organizations that produce great country music AND drive EBITDA. Congratulations to women all over th International Women’s Day for your accomplishments and successes. As a proud dad-daughter of two, here are more shattered glass ceilings and women in the White House and boardrooms.

Now meet a small sample of the incredible women who help create the music you love.

Renee’ Leymon is Vice President of BMG Records in Nashville. The only global alternative to established majors, the most artist-friendly international record label, and a formidable group of people of the highest caliber in country music. I have known Renée for more than twenty years and have seen her inspire many women who have had the chance to work in her team.

I worked with Lee Adams for over two decades. She is one of Nashville’s most successful promotional and marketing executives, working with Broken Bow Records, whose roster of artists includes Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, Chase Rice, Lainey Wilson and many more. Lee shares great advice for all women in the industry.

I worked in radio with Denise Roberts early in our careers. She went on to work for numerous Nashville record labels and country stars, including Toby Keith, among others. Recently, Denise transitioned into insurance specifically in the music industry and had the chance to work directly for her mentor, who she features in her music video!

Shelia Shipley Biddy mentored my friend Denise Roberts, was mentioned by many other women as their heroine. As you can clearly see, is a very strong leader in the Nashville music industry offering insurance, subsidies with high medical costs, and end-of-life planning. Shelia offers great career advice for everyone, but especially for women this International Women’s Day.

KellyLynn became Mrs. Chris Janson on 07/04/2010. Along the way, she’s used her long career in and around country music to help her husband become one of the country format’s biggest new stars. KellyLynn is obviously the queen of multitasking and her husband is quick to say how much she contributes to their partnership.

Shannon is a new promotion coordinator at MCA/UMG Records in Nashville and has some great advice for other young women who dream of working in the music business. She worked very hard to get the opportunity she has now and plans to build a solid career in the music industry. That’s exactly how it happens.

Sharla McCoy is a veteran country music producer, owner and operator of McCoy Productions, a radio, record and artist liaison, wife, mother, horse riding lover and most importantly CANCER SURVIVOR! I have worked with Sharla for longer than I can remember at events where her company produces artist interview sessions at large scale events in Nashville, Las Vegas and elsewhere. She’s super connected with the biggest country stars in the industry and has become an icon for women as a leader in the country music community.
